The time for the decriminalisation of cannabis in Australia has arrived. Politicians in Australia can either act appropriately or be shouldered aside by history. 

What needs to be done is clear. Overseas experience is instructive. Not only is there a need to formulate an entirely new regulatory environment that appropriately deals with a whole range of novel problems, there is also a need to grapple with the damage caused by the inclusion of palpably unjust and malformed "offences" within the criminal code for many decades.
